Congress Must Stop Playing Immigration Futbol - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/cq/20100708/pl_cq_politics/politics3698103_1)
..... Even as they battle each other, both parties are losing, too. By demanding ever harsher enforcement measures, Republicans are kicking away support from Latinos, the nation's fastest-growing demographic group.
And Democrats, by insisting on "comprehensive" reform to appease liberal and Latino activists, are losing the chance to enact incremental changes that might build a consensus for full reform.
....The idea of incremental reform has been advocated for years by the founder of the National Immigration Forum, Rick Swartz, but it has been resisted -- and still is -- by many activists who demand nothing less than earned legalization for most of the country's 12 million illegal immigrants.
.... A "down payment" bill ought to pass this year. After all, 11 Senate Republicans have supported immigration reform in the past. But the bottom line is that nothing at all will pass this year. What about next year?
Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) told me that 2011 should be the year for action both on the nation's debt problem and immigration -- but he said that "border security first" would continue to be the GOP mantra.
.... You'd like to think that maybe Republicans and Democrats could act like adults, call a truce and agree to compromise reform legislation gradually leading to legal status for illegal immigrants.
You'd like to think it, but it would be utterly -- and sadly -- out of character for those in power in Washington, D.C.

can you reword the title? I am not sure how that title is accurate given the background of how macaca was used: Sidharth (who was born and raised in the US, but is of of Indian origin) was called Macaca by George Allen because of the color of his skin. Getting a GC or not getting a GC does not change the color of one's skin so it does not stop people from calling you a macaca...
Admins can change the title - but I guess the title does not hurt - it wakes up people to what reality they live in and pretend they don't care

Hello ,
I entered USA in Dec. 2007 on H4 Visa valid till April 2010. I got my H1B approved in October 2008. I worked for few months, and due to bad economy I do not have any project since last 5 months and also no paystubs. I would like to change back to H4 status. But I understand that filing for change of status from within US might require latest paystubs. So I am planning to go to my Home country this month ( Nov 2009 ) and return in Jan 2010.
My questions are:
1) The H4 visa stamp on my passport is valid till Apr 2010. So can I simply enter USA with the same stamp and valid H1b petition from my spouse to get the new valid I-94 in H4 status?
2) Will there be any issue at Port of Entry ? Has anyone done this before ?
3) If this can be done then once I get valid I-94 with H4 status, Do I need to file any other form in addition like I-539 to be in proper status ?
Thanks in advance !

these rallies are usually organized by Undocumented workers. Folks at immigrationvoice strongly believe that people should not highlight any events related to undocument workers on this site...Hence reds for you...
now suddenly I got "Red". don't know what's the bloody reason.

As long as you have your returning documents, i.e. AP for yourself and valid unexpired visa for your wife you should be OK.
Just use AVR (search online and print the rules). This way you can return on same I-94 within next 30 days.
We used it when we did our landing back in 2008.
Hello
My wife and I will be Canadian Permanent Residents in a few months. I am on EAD with I485 pending and have AP. She is on H1B
We will need to Travel to Canada for Immigrant Landing formalities after we get PR.
How can we enter back in US so that my AOS and her H1B Status is not affected?
Thanks

Hi ALL,
I'm a newbie in the forum and i need help from all regarding the below issue i have.
I'm a F1 student and presently working as a Software Engineer.I have been on OPT from January 2010 and i have recently got an extension for another 17 months which is a total of 29 months of OPT from January 2010 till June 2012, My main question was when do i need to apply for H1 and are there different types of H1?
What are the dates for applying for H1 and the start date for H1?
I will be done with my OPT by June 2012, so when should i start my H1 filling and is there any way that i can extend my status?
what are the ways of applying for H1?
Sorry if i have been asking the same question which has been answered before, if so please do not mind to direct me to that particular page
Thanks,
Rohit
Do it as soon as you can. You have a lot of time though. This year's quota started from April 1 which will come into affect on oct 01. You have nothing to worry.
